Meta Platforms and AMD Forge AI Chip Deal Amid Tech Sector Expansion
Meta Platforms (META) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) have struck a multiyear agreement for the supply of AI chips, signaling intensified competition in the semiconductor space. AMD shares surged 6% following the announcement, while Meta's stock held steady at $636, reflecting a 2.8% decline.
The deal involves AMD issuing 160 million shares tied to performance milestones, with the first tranche triggered upon shipping 1 gigawatt of chips. Meta's $130 billion AI investment underscores its commitment to infrastructure scaling. "This partnership aligns our execution with long-term value creation," said AMD CFO Jean Hu.
Semiconductor stocks continue to benefit from relentless AI investment by tech giants, despite lingering bubble concerns. The agreement positions AMD as a critical enabler of Meta's compute-intensive ambitions in generative AI and metaverse development.
